IPL HAIR REMOVAL
Most hair removal techniques such as shaving tweezing or waxing only provide temporary relief from unwanted hair. Laser hair removal offers treatments of large and small areas, for men and women, with long-lasting results.
A laser produces a beam of highly concentrated light which is absorbed by the pigment in the hair. The laser pulses for a fraction of a second, just long enough to vaporize the pigment -disabling a large number of hair follicles at a time to eliminate or significantly impede the hair’s re-growth – but not long enough to damage the surrounding skin.
The absolute requirement is that the hair must be darker than the surrounding skin. Hair cannot be blonde, grey or white.
Hair follows a specific growth cycle. The length of each phase in this cycle varies depending on where the hair is located on the body. Everyone’s hair grows differently, depending on age, weight, diet, metabolism, hormones, ethnicity, medication, location of hair, thickness and resilience. The hair has 3 growth phases that are deemed so important that they have been given names.
Phase 1 Anagen
This is the growing phase and can last from2 to 6 years. Hair grows 10-15mm per month and at any given time 85% of body hair is in this stage. It is strong healthy and full of melanin (colour).
Phase 2 Catagen
This dormant stage lasts 1 to 2 weeks and the hair stops growing. The hair follicle shrinks and part of it starts to die.
Phase 3 Telogen
Lasts 5 to 14 weeks and is the final “fall out” stage. When old hair is in this stage the hair follicle becomes active again and pushes the old hair out.
Laser treatments only act on hairs in the Anagen stage of growth. Follicles lying dormant will not be affected at this time. Eventually, as these dormant hairs become active and begin to grow, additional sessions will be needed. On average 6 sessions will leave you hair free all year round.
At Famcare Aesthetic Centre we have chosen to use the Light Sheer Diode laser because it has been specifically designed for hair removal only. It has world proven tests to show it is the ultimate hair removal laser available and is backed by extensive clinical studies to prove its effectiveness for hair reduction. It is one of the few lasers that has been passed by the FDA to claim permanent hair reduction. It can safely be used on all skin colours and tanned skin. It is delicate enough for a woman’s fine, sensitive skin and robust enough for a man’s beard, back or arms. It requires fewer treatments, per area, than other machines because of it efficiency, thus reducing costs.
In your quest to find the perfect treatment for hair removal, please remember that.

All Lasers are not created equal.
-
IPL is not a laser – it is a laser equivalent.
-
IPL’s work more directly on the top layers of the skin and may not penetrate deep enough to damage hair germ cells.
